Courtney Brandstetter Brown County Voted Best Teacher

I am Courtney Switzer Brandstetter.  I have a long heritage starting in rural Blanket, Texas.  My Switzer cowboy lineage began with country living and a grandmother that was a homemaking teacher teaching in the Early, Blanket and Zephyr school systems for 44 years.  I was raised with the homemaking environment without a clue this would be my career.  I graduated from Texas Woman’s University in Denton (the same college my grandmother attended) with a BS in Vocational Home Economics.  I taught 2 years at Hillcrest High School in Dallas plus 1 year at Brownwood High School. I am delighted to say that I am in my 19th year at Early High School.

My greatest achievements are being married to my husband, Gene Brandstetter of 19 years and having my two children, Lillie age 15, a sophomore at Early High School and Landen age 11, a 6th grader at Early Middle School.  My field of study is one that is used daily in my home, dealing with my students and life in general.

I am fortunate to teach a subject I believe in strongly, and I enjoy coming into my classroom each day.  As a Family and Consumer Science teacher, I teach skills relevant to every student.  Family and Consumer Science subjects teach skills to improve students’ relationships, self-worth and quality of family life.  The information I teach in Family and Consume Sciences will be carried outside my classroom into their future family settings, future workplaces and future lives.  Family and Consumer Science teachers have a direct and important role in the education program and must exhibit the highest standard of professionalism and integrity.  I teach, so that at the end of the day, I can know in my heart that I have touched lives in a direct and positive way.  I have made a difference in the lives of my students.  That difference counts!
