Teacher Web Page Basics

QUICK LOOKS - click on the link to jump right to the section you need:

Create an account on SchoolRack Login to your SchoolRack account

•• Create an account on SchoolRack ••

Go to www.schoolrack.com. Click on "CREATE A FREE ACCOUNT NOW" or on "SIGN UP".

On the sign-up page, fill out the info for your SchoolRack account.

You will receive an email from SchoolRack with your login info and temporary password.

Now you are ready to login and get started!


•• Login to SchoolRack ••

•Go to www.schoolrack.com. Enter your username and password and click "LOGIN".

HINT: You can click on "I forgot my password" if you can't remember your username or password.



•• The Dashboard & Tools ••

Dashboard:
Here you get a quick summary of your account (like changes and stats).

This is sort of the "home page" of your account.


Your Tools :
The blue "Your Tools" box will always be at the left side of the page. It has all the tools you need to create and maintain your web site.
•Dashboard: your account home page
•Sections & Entries: add/edit pages and content
•Upload Files: upload files to use on your web site (NOTE: you can only upload Word, Excel, PowerPoint, PDF, or ZIP files and images must be GIF or JPG)
•View Statistics: see what pages are most popular
•Mailing Lists: manage your mailing lists and send messages

•Design Website: give your site a great look
•Edit Profile: change your account information
•Logout: be sure to logout when you are done!

Click on any of the tools from "Your Tools" to find out more.


•• Edit Profile ••

Go to the Edit Profile page to change your account information.

Your School: click "Reselect School" if you need to change your district or campus

Change Photograph: this is the image that will appear on the homepage of your website (NOTE: it has to be a GIF or JPG file)

•Personal Information: change your name, email address or password

•Account Settings:
Show Dates - shows "last updated" date on each website entry
Show Email - allows visitors to email you from your website
Use Rich Text Editor - just say yes



•• Viewing Your Website ••

You can view your website anytime by clicking on the "View Your Website" link at the top of your page.
You can also get to your website by using the web address (URL):
www.schoolrack.com/your username
(no, don't actually try to use "your username")

NOTE: you may find that you need to refresh your page when using "View Your Website". Use the little refresh button at the top of your browser (often, green arrows in a circular pattern) or just hit the F5 key on your keyboard.
After you have viewed your site, you can get back to your editing by clicking:
the Back button at the top of your browser
the SchoolRack logo at the top of the page
the Home link at the top right of the page



•• Sections & Entries ••

1. Click on the "New Section" button to create a new page for your website.
2. Once you've created a new section, you can use the "Add" icon (+) to add content to your page and the "Edit" icon (little pencil) to change the content.

Go to the Sections & Entries page to add and edit information on your site.

Sections are pages in your site.
Entries
are the content on those pages.

Name: the title that you have given to your sections (underlined) and entries (indented). Click on the underlined section titles to preview that page.
Last Updated: shows the last time you saved any changes
Add: click on the plus sign (+) to add an entry (content) to that section (page)
•Edit: click on the little pencil to edit a section or entry
Move: click the arrows to change the order of your pages and content
Delete: PERMANENTLY delete sections/entries

1. Sections:
Type in a Section Title.
Then click the "Save New Section" button.

NOTE: if you already have other sections, you will also get the choice of inserting the new one at the bottom or the top of the list -- but you can also use the "Move" arrows to reorder your pages later.

2. Entries:
Adding an Entry:
click on the "add" icon (plus sign +)
Editing an Entry:
click on the Edit icon (little pencil)

Whether you are adding or editing an entry, you'll use the Rich Text editor. It has lots of neat formatting options to help you jazz up your content.

CLICK THE "SAVE ENTRY" BUTTON!

Be sure to View your website to see your new pages and content


•• Designing the look of your website ••

Design Website:

1. Select a Theme: easy. Just click on "Select Theme", then go to "View Your Website" and see what you think. Check out several (no matter what the color) to see the different layouts.

2. Add your information in Page Personalization

•Personalization: add your information to personalize your website

3. Be sure to "Save Website Settings"!
