Blonde Tutorials

Setting the options for OE will let you tailor your E-mail messages and accounts to fit you. Remember that options are just exactly that: options. You don't have to change any of the defaults, but you can if you want to. You don't have to make your options like I have mine. This is where you can make your E-mail your own!

Start by going to Tools, Options.
You'll get a page with a whole lot of tabs to choose from. We are only going to look at the tabs that you may want to change. {Some of them are perfectly fine with the default settings so we aren't going to mess with it.}
By the way, this tutorial doesn't address newsgroups, so we won't be looking at any of those options.

General tab:

• I like to set OE to go directly to the Inbox when i start it up.

• Sound notification can be nice or annoying. You decide.

• It makes sense to send and receive at start-up (after all, aren't you starting OE so you can check your E-mail?)

• I have OE check for messages every 5 minutes because that's part of my job. You can decide what works for you.

Send tab:

• It's a good idea to save copies in your Sent Items folder in case you need to send again (or in case you have a blonde moment and can't remember if you sent it).

• Automatically adding to your Address Book is a quick and easy way to add people that you correspond with often.

• The automatic address completion is great. You don't need to type in (or remember) the whole address (if the receiver is already in your address book).

Compose tab:

This is where you get to have fun!

• You can choose a font and color that fits you. WARNING: Send a test message to a couple of friends who are using a different computer. If the receiving computer does not have the same font you are using in your message, it will substitite another font (and it may come out totally illegible).

• You can also choose to use a Stationary for your message. Notice that the font will be the one that goes with the stationary.

Spelling tab:

• It's always a good idea to have your message checked for spellings errors before you send it.

• You can make your spelling check go faster if you skip the original text in a reply or forward.

Security tab:

• If "Do not allow attachments..." is checked, most attachments that are forwarded will not open. If you have attachments coming in that will not let you save them (never open, always save), then un-check this box.

And even more fun stuff...
