Before we start creating a background: Important Notes on Backgrounds
To start your background, go to File >> New to start a new document.

For a background, set the Height and Width to 1 inch (or 72 pixels).

Be sure that the Resolution is 72 pixels/inch.

Choose a canvas color (you can always change it later if you need to).

To create a texture for your background, use the Paint Bucket from the toolbar.

Use the Properties window to choose the Texture or Gradient fill that you want.

Fill Options allows you to choose even more patterns and textures.

If you want to change your colors, use the Brush and Paint Colors on the toolbar.

You can also use the Brush Tool to create a textured background.

Choose from many options on the Brush Tool Properties window.

You can also create a subtle watermark background using the Text tool.

When you have finished your background, Export your image file to your website folder. {Note: You will want to Save the original .png if you want to be able to edit the image file.}

Add the wonderful new background to your web page (find out how to do that).
