Sorting & Filtering

The ability to quickly and easily sort and filter data is another fantastic feature of Excel.
Click here to for a sample file to use for this tutorial. Download data1.xls and save it on your computer.

Sorting:

The quickest way to sort is to use the sorting icons on the Standard Toolbar.

For more advanced sorting, go to Data >> Sort to get a window that will let you sort several columns at once.

Filtering:
Go to Data >> Filter >> AutoFilter for adding quick filters to your data.

You can choose to filter by any item in a column -- you can even run a sort from here.

Choose All to show all entries.

If you want to keep a filtered list, simply save the file with a new name (like data_bwd for a list filtered just to show people from brownwood).
That way, you have a copy of your complete list and copy that is filtered.
