Typing & Formatting

Adding Text:

To begin, just click in a cell and start typing.
You can move cells by using the arrow keys or you can just click on the cell where you want to type.

You may notice that some of the things you want to type are too big to fit in one cell. You need to adjust the column width.

Adjusting Column Width & Row Height:

To adjust the column width, just put your cursor over line between the columns up in the column header. When the cursor turns into a 2-headed arrow, you can click and pull the column out (or in). You can also double click on the line for Auto Adjust.
This is the way to change row height, too.

Worksheets in the Workbook:

Remember that each workbook starts with 3 worksheets. They are shown with tabs at the bottom of the page.
Right-click on a worksheet tab to get a menu of options for the worksheet.

Using AutoFill:
AutoFill is one of the really neat things about Excel. It lets you fill in many cells based on one cell (a great time-saver)!

When you click on a cell, you will notice a small black box in the lower right corner.
When you put your cursor over the box, it turns into a solid black plus.

Just click on the black box and drag over across or down to fill in the other cells.
After you fill in the other cells, a little box will appear to let you choose other fill options.

This works great with a series of numbers, dates, and even the days of the week or months of the year.
It's also a fast way to copy and paste.

Formatting Worksheets:
The Formatting Toolbar has everything you need to create a great-looking spreadsheet. Just select a cell or a group of cells and choose your design from the toobar.
If you want to try a little more advanced cell formatting, go to Format >> Cells on the Menu.
