Blonde Tutorials

 Macromedia Dreamweaver

Now you are ready to start your web page. No, really -- you are. It's easy.
All you need to do is click inside the new, blank web page (that file that is still called untitled.htm) that is on your screen and start typing. {If, during a blonde moment, you closed that file, you can always get a new one by going to File, New and then choose Basic Page and click Create.}
Look at the picture below:

Type in "Thank you for visiting my web page" in the body of the file.
In the Title Toolbar, be sure to type in a title, like "Welcome to my page". Why do you need a title?

After you have added a little to the body and given your page a title, go ahead and save it. Just go to File, Save As. Browse to your web folder (DW Basics for this tutorial) and save the file as index.htm.
Important notes on saving web pages

Now, let's jazz up that boring type a little.
Check out the pic below:

Select (highlight) "Thank you for visiting my web page". Look in the Properties window at the bottom of your screen and find Size. Click the little down-arrow and choose 4. Your font will get a little larger.
Important notes on Text in web pages

Time to jazz up the rest of the page!
A white background and black text is fine, but sometimes you want a little more.
Here's how. Go to Modify, Page Properties (as shown below).

You will get the Page Properties Window that will let you add all kinds of pizzazz to your page!

Your page title will be there (here's a chance to put one in if you've forgotten). You can put in a Background Image (we'll do this in the "adding pictures" section). You can also choose colors for the Background, Text, Links, Visited Links, and Active Links. {You can set margins and some other things, but we're keeping it simple right now.}
Important notes on Colors

Use the colors boxes (shown on the image above) to create your color scheme and click OK.
This is how mine turned out:

Now that I've chatted your ears off {I am blonde, remember} try out some of these tips by typing in the rest of the new web page as it is shown in the pic above (feel free to use some artistic license).
Save the file again.
Preview your new web page by clicking on the Preview icon (the picture of the world) and then choosing Preview in iexplore (this may say netscape if you are using that instead of Internet Explorer).
