 Macromedia Dreamweaver

We already have a web page. Now let's add some links and make a web site!

Links, or hyperlinks, simply connect two files together. You can connect your web page to another page in your site, or you can connect to a page in someone else's site. You can connect to picture files (like .jpg or .gif), media files (like .wmf or .mpg) or other files (like .pdf).
Links are just a way to get from one file to another, whether on your computer or on the Internet.
Important Notes on Links

•• Email Links •• Links to another web site •• Links within your web site ••

Email Links:
To set up an Email link, select the text that will be the link (for this tutorial, highlight "e-mail me").
Then click on the Email Link button on the Common Toolbar (shown below):

An Email Link Window will appear. The text that you selected should be in the Text blank. Enter the appropriate e-mail address in the E-mail blank, then click OK. The text will change color (according to whatever color you set your links to be) and be underlined.

Links to another web site:
To make the link, simply select the text that you want to be a link (like "Old Navy") and then type or paste the full web address (or URL) into the Link blank on the Properties window.

Use the Preview icon to check out your page and test your links.

Links within your web site:
The first thing we need is a new file to which we can link.
To add a new page to your site, click on File (from the Site window) then choose New File. A new, untitled file will appear in your site. See the pic below:

You can double-click on the file to open it.
Give your new web page some personality by setting the Page Properties, then save the file with a new name {i used pics.htm for this tutorial}.

To create a link between pages, simply select the text that you want to be a link, then click the yellow folder next to the Link blank on the Properties window. This will let you browse to the file to which you want to link.
Check out the pic below:

On your first page, you should have a link to your second page and vice versa. Here's what your second page might look like:

Save your files. Be sure to Preview them to check your links.

You now have a web site!
Let's add some more.
